Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner puts pressure on Sergio Perez

Horner piles on extra pressure to Perez: 'Can't afford that'

Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner has put more pressure on Sergio Perez ahead of the United States Grand Prix. While Red Bull have dropped behind McLaren in the Constructors' Championship this year, he senses an even tougher season lies ahead in 2025 due to the strong driver pairings at the top teams.

Perez started the season by fulfilling his role next to Max Verstappen. Red Bull achieved three one-two finishes in the opening four races, but the Mexican hasn't finished on the podium since race five. Perez has struggled to find form, and has frequently dropped behind McLaren and often Mercedes and Ferrari. Horner wants that fixing for the 2025 season.

Visa Cash App RB, Red Bull's sister team, ousted Daniel Ricciardo from his seat after the Singapore Grand Prix. Liam Lawson, a Red Bull Junior himself, will return to VCARB this weekend onwards. Horner looks ahead and wants to see how Lawson compares to Yuki Tsunoda. "We desperately need answers," Horner told Motorsport.com.

"When you look at our opponents, Ferrari will be strong next year, with [Lewis] Hamilton and [Charles] Leclerc. Plus McLaren with [Lando] Norris and [Oscar] Piastri is a strong line-up. We need to make sure that with both of our drivers, that there's not a big gap between them because you can't afford to have that," Horner concluded.
