Cadillac choose engine supplier: 'Hopefully that happens with them'

Only in 2028 will the new Cadillac Formula One Team start racing with power units that are designed and developed in-house. Until then, the future F1 team, which will make their Grand Prix-debut in 2026, will need one from another supplier. Mario Andretti, Cadillac F1's director of the board, reveals in an exclusive interview with GPblog which manufacturer the Americans would like to partner with.
In recent days, media reports suggested that Ferrari and Honda were the main candidates to supply Cadillac with engines in the '26 and '27 seasons. Andretti says it is expected that it will eventually be Ferrari that temporarily sell power units to the Americans. "Yes, that is good, what I suspect right now," the 1978 F1 champion answered to our website when asked about the matter.
Andretti calls collaboration with Ferrari 'special'
Beforehand, when Cadillac still wanted to enter F1 as Andretti Global, Alpine were the intended engine supplier. However, the French are will not manufacture their own power units entering the 2026 regulation changes. As a result, there is not much choice left for Cadillac, Andretti agrees.
"Yes, exactly. A lot of things changed in that respect. So you have to be prepared for changes, obviously. But, yes, at the moment, it would be a great objective, and a great thing to have a Ferrari on there, from my standpoint especially, with my history with the brand for many, many years. And so, yes, I just hope that happens," Andretti continued.
