The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will join the grid from the 2026 season. It will be the first time a new team has joined for a decade. Helmut Marko believes the addition of the American team and brand is an "asset" for the sport. Their director of the board is with generational rival Mario Andretti. However, the Red Bull Racing adviser is also critical of the fact that revenue will now need to be shared with an extra team.

For years, the current F1 teams were not too keen on having an 11th team in the sport, with the biggest stumbling block being that Cadillac would share F1's revenues, leaving less money for the other teams. However, Formula One Management has been won over, although it remains difficult for the teams to accept that all the money will soon have to be shared by 11 parties instead of ten.

Marko calls Cadillac's name 'an asset'

Toto Wolff, Mercedes' CEO and team boss, was still critical of the addition of Cadillac in Las Vegas, and Marko can understand that: "That is so. The payment made by Cadillac does not come close to compensating us for what we have invested a lot of money in the past decade," Marko said, referring to the likely $450million entrance fee paid by Cadillac to join the sport.

But from a sporting point of view, Marko is happy to see Cadillac coming into the world of F1: "Although the existing teams have little use for it at the moment: a name like Cadillac with General Motors in the background is definitely an asset."
