Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have indicated in the past that they would like to drive in the Le Mans 24 Hours together one day. Jos Verstappen seemed to be their team-mate for a long time, but he has since indicated that he is no longer interested. The duo is therefore looking for a third driver, who only has to fulfil one specific requirement.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, Verstappen confirmed that plans have not changed. Alonso and himself are still positive about joint Le Mans participation in the future. "It's in the back of our minds, we know that we want to do it," Verstappen explained. "[Jos] is still very good at it, [but] he doesn't want to. He just doesn't want to do it anymore," the three-time world champion stated, admitting that his father will not partner with him.

The search for Verstappen and Alonso's teammate

The Dutchman stressed that he is not worried about finding a possible teammate if the day actually comes in the future. There would be more than enough choice, as he explained. "It's fine, let's see what happens. A lot of things can happen. There are many great drivers that you can pick from. I have a lot of friends also who race, so it will be hard to pick one."

Verstappen does, however, have one thing that he must keep in mind. The third driver in question would have to be light. "The only thing is, for Le Mans, there's no minimum weight for the driver. I'm quite a heavy competitor, so I would have to find light teammates to compensate. Fernando is quite light so that would be very good for us, but we would need to find another one."
