Aston Martin returns to the track under its own name next season and has brought a wealth of experience on board with former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. In an interview with Auto und Motorsport Vettel says that he can take the team to the desired goal. The goal: Be right behind Red Bull'

Vettel says in the interview that his way of working can be of great benefit to the team. He is, after all, a seasoned driver with over 50 wins to his name who is eager to get on the track for the British team and turn his experience into results. Vettel has had a rough ride in recent years but he is feeling good about next season. However, he also understands that he is not overpowering".

"There are things I need to learn. On the other hand, I am well positioned with my way of working and my methodology and can bring a lot to the team. "

Aston Martin targets top three in 2021

The driver from Heppenheim is currently looking mainly to the future. That means working towards Aston Martin's goals. That goal is currently aiming for a third place in the Constructor's Cup and that is what Vettel, amongst others, has to ensure. The German says it is not an unrealistic goal in his eyes:

"The role of favourite has been assigned to Mercedes. Red Bull is the first challenger. Hopefully, we will come right behind. We don't just want to drive in this position, we want to get closer to the top." The biggest goal is first of all to settle down, find my way in the team and have fun. At this point, we are all very euphoric. Let's see what it looks like when the car is on the track."

Vettel saw Aston Martin finish in fourth place in 2021, then under the name Racing Point. He believes third place was achievable then and with the minimal changes to the Formula One cars this season, it should be within reach. In any case, he is ready to start chasing the Red Bull and Mercedes drivers in a few weeks' time. Where Aston Martin will eventually end up in the standings remains to be seen. In the meantime, the first and second places are also being contested by the racing teams of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
