Optimism about Verstappen: 'That gives reason to hope'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen has the advantage of starting at the front of the race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. An analysis by Auto, Motor und Sport makes it clear that the battle between the two drivers is far from over.
Verstappen and Hamilton would've hoped to have lost each other in the world championship by this stage of the season, but nothing could be further from the truth. The drivers have the same number of points one race before the end of the season and will therefore have to do everything in their power to finish in front of each other in Abu Dhabi.
Mercedes and Red Bull must adopt different strategy
While Red Bull Racing's driver has the advantage of starting from pole position, Hamilton seems likely to be able to do more with his tyres. Verstappen will start on the red tyre, while Hamilton will start on the medium compound. It means the Briton can run longer.
"The medium tyre gives him more flexibility in race strategy because it lasts longer," Auto, Motor und Sport explained. "Verstappen's long run on Pirelli's softest tyre gives reason to hope it will last 14 to 18 laps, depending on driving style."
