Alonso considers 2023: 'At the moment I would say yes'

2022 may well be Fernando Alonso's last season. The two-time world champion is starting his final season with Alpine F1 Team on his current contract, although he himself would currently like to continue for another year.
Another year of Alonso in F1?
Alonso returned to the premier class of motor racing in 2021 after a two-year absence. The Spaniard signed a two-year deal with Alpine, which expires after 2022. The two-time world champion currently considers it too early to make a decision about 2023.
Despite it being too early for a decision, Alonso would currently like to continue racing in 2023. "At the moment I feel very motivated, happy, I enjoyed last year a lot, I'm looking forward to the challenge of 2022, so if I had to decide now, I would say yes," says the Spaniard in conversation with RTL Germany. He expects to decide around the middle of 2022.
Alonso does not have everything in his own hands
Although Alonso can decide for himself if he wants to continue, it is not certain if that will be possible at Alpine. Currently, the team has committed Esteban Ocon for a longer period and has top talent Oscar Piastri still in the academy. The Australian will be watching from the sidelines in 2022 and will perform some tests, but seems ready to become the regular driver.
