'Buxton to move away from Formula 1 amid IndyCar offer'
- Ludo van Denderen
Thanks to the Netflix series Drive to Survive and his work for F1 TV, Will Buxton has become one of the most famous journalists in Formula 1. But the Briton may have covered his last Grand Prix. According to Sports Business Journal, he has an offer to join the team of commentators for the IndyCar races at the American company Fox.
According to the website, it is unclear whether Buxton and Fox will actually enter into a partnership. Furthermore, it is not known whether the journalist would then stop his work in Formula 1, or whether he would combine that with IndyCar. There are eight weekends in the coming season in which both F1 and IndyCar are active. The IndyCar season ends on August 31.
A comeback for Buxton in the United States?
Buxton has previously worked in the United States. He was already active for Speed Channel, a part of Fox, for which he covered F1. When Fox lost the rights for the premier class of motorsport, Buxton switched to NBC Sports, where he went on to cover both F1 and IndyCar. Since 2018, he has been one of the faces of F1 TV.
Fox has the rights to IndyCar again for 2025. The channel is currently putting together a team of commentators and analysts. James Hinchcliffe, who worked for NBC last season and also F1 TV, is also said to be in talks with the channel about a contract.
