Max Verstappen extended his contract at Red Bull Racing on Thursday morning. This ties the Dutchman to the Austrian racing stable until the end of 2028. According to Helmut Marko, Red Bull made a big exception in the deal with Verstappen.

The driver has been known in the Formula 1 world for years as a great driver, but until a year ago he never managed to win a world title. Last season, however, he managed to compete with Lewis Hamilton and even took the world title in the last race in Abu Dhabi.

That was a clear sign to Red Bull that it needed to keep Verstappen on board for longer. Over the last two months, the two parties have been in talks, with Red Bull and Verstappen having the clear intention of continuing to work together for longer. It led to the deal that came out on Thursday.

Red Bull made unusual decision

Marko argues that the Austrians made an exception mainly in terms of the length of the contract. "I can only say that both parties are satisfied," Marko let it be known in an interview with F1insider.com. "The support that Max enjoys with us is reflected in the duration of the contract. Normally Red Bull doesn't make such long agreements."
