During the first day of testing in Bahrain, Red Bull Racing in particular impressed with the most mileage. The reliability of the car looks good. Pierre Gasly was the fastest man on Thursday, although times don't mean much during the test days. Ferrari was also good again on the timesheet with second and third place.

Mercedes introduced a completely different design of the W13, with the narrow sidepods barely visible. The team needs to work on balance issues and further analyse the updates during the last two days. Also porpoising still seems to be extremely present on the straights, while this seems to be already solved at other teams. Adrian Newey confirmed for Red Bull that there will be new updates on Friday and Saturday.

Problems at McLaren

McLaren also had to deal with problems. Lando Norris drove only 49 laps on Thursday due to brake problems, which meant a lot of tinkering with the car in the garage. Daniel Ricciardo will hope to take his seat in his McLaren on the second day, after already having to be replaced by Norris due to illness.

GPblog made a complete overview of the driver schedule during the test days in Bahrain. Max Verstappen will take over the wheel from Perez on Friday. Kevin Magnussen will take his seat in a Formula 1 car for Haas F1 for the first time since 2020.
