Carlos Sainz will remain part of the Ferrari team for the next few years. The Spaniard signed on Thursday morning, showing confidence in the Italian racing stable. According to Mark Hughes, it is a logical choice for both parties.

Ferrari seems to be taking a serious shot at the world title this season for the first time in years. With Charles Leclerc, the formation is convincingly on top of the world championship and is one of the big favourites to take the victory in the upcoming races.

Sainz makes a good impression at Ferrari

Where Leclerc is performing well, Sainz is doing a little less for the time being. The Madrid native would also like to compete for the world title this season but is currently far behind his teammate. Nevertheless, Ferrari chose to give Sainz a helping hand and extend his contract. Hughes doesn't think Ferrari considered the moment, he writes for The Race.

"In reality, the of-the-moment form of Sainz is not particularly relevant to Ferrari’s choice," the journalist argues. "He’s a super-positive force within the team, bringing a great work ethic and a great ability to analyse car behaviour and translate it in terms the engineers can quickly grasp."
