Carlos Sainz, in his debut season at Ferrari last year, immediately managed to trounce teammate Charles Leclerc in the world championship. In 2022, however, the roles are reversed for now. Mattia Binotto is pleased to see that Leclerc has recovered and states that he perhaps needed to be put on edge.

Although 2021 was not his best year, Binotto did note that Leclerc manages to make progress each year and thus becomes a better driver. At L'Equipe team boss Binotto is asked about Leclerc's secret. "He is very self-critical. We met this winter to talk. What could he have done better? How could he do better?"

The current leader in the World Championship has made winning the World Championship title his big goal this season. Ferrari's F1-75 is extremely competitive, and that is pushing Leclerc himself to an even higher level. "The way I see him working, whether it's in Maranello, so in the factory or on the track in his debriefings, you can feel that he has changed. Even more involved," Binotto states.

Leclerc wants revenge

At the Imola Grand Prix, Leclerc made his first really big mistake of 2022. In pursuit of Sergio Perez, he spun, so that in the end there appeared to be no more in it than sixth place. Leclerc, however, is mentally rock solid. He told us to accept his mistake and be sure not to make similar mistakes again.
