Sainz gets off lightly after blocking Stroll
- GPblog.com
Carlos Sainz has been behind teammate Charles Leclerc all weekend in Monaco. It doesn't help that he got in Lance Stroll's way during the last free practice session, for which he was called to the stewards' attention. The stewards eventually decided to give Sainz only a light penalty.
Carlos Sainz can count himself lucky, as he did not receive a grid penalty for blocking Stroll. The stewards decided to give the Spaniard a warning and a fine of 25,000 euros for Ferrari.
Ferrari's mistake
The stewards came to this decision because Sainz "received some very incorrect messages about the gap with the cars behind him. Because Sainz had poor visibility to what was happening behind him, he had to rely on the instructions of his team. In the process, the driver almost came to a standstill, which the stewards said was 'unacceptable,' leading to the warning and fine.
If Sainz shows similar behaviour during qualifying, he could well face a grid penalty, the stewards warn.
