Gasly not looking at options outside Red Bull after Perez contract award
- GPblog.com
Pierre Gasly is keeping his jaws tightly shut when it comes to his position at Red Bull. The AlphaTauri driver still has a contract through 2023, but it is clear that he will be looking at other options now that Sergio Perez has renewed at Red Bull Racing.
New contract for Perez
Gasly would be only too happy to get a second chance at Red Bull Racing. After just one year in Formula 1, he was already given the chance at Red Bull's main team when Daniel Ricciardo suddenly left at the end of 2018. It turned out to be too soon, as after just six months the Frenchman was deemed too light and replaced by Alexander Albon.
At AlphaTauri, Gasly performed great afterwards, including his victory in Italy. The 26-year-old driver had hoped for a second chance at Red Bull with his performance, but heard in Monaco that Perez has extended his contract until 2024. Helmut Marko stated earlier that he does not see many alternatives for Gasly, but how does he himself view this?
Future of Gasly
At the press conference, the French driver was asked about this and, according to Motorsport-magazin.com that the negotiations are currently ongoing. For him it was no surprise that Red Bull extended Perez's contract. He said earlier that he thought it was a logical choice.
Gasly acknowledges that Perez's contract award has an impact on his future, but he doesn't want to concern himself with that right now. In his own words, he is not looking outside Red Bull at the moment either, but the talks are now mainly about what is possible for him within the Austrian formation and what his future looks like there.
