Sergio Perez showed his qualities once again during the first day in Azerbaijan. With a first and second time he left Max Verstappen behind twice, forcing the Dutchman to get the most out of his car again this weekend.

The Mexican signed a new contract with Red Bull Racing a week and a half ago, which means he will be linked to the team next season as well. The news gives Perez obvious confidence, as after the Monaco Grand Prix he managed to start ironclad in Baku.

Red Bull will undoubtedly hope that Perez will follow up the weekend well, if only to increase their lead in the constructors' championship. Moreover, the Austrian team knows that extra pressure on Verstappen's shoulders will only make the reigning world champion get even more out of his car.

Perez wants to challenge Verstappen for pole position

The Dutchman, who struggled with problems with his DRS in the free practice sessions, will want to do everything possible to secure pole position. In Perez's current form, however, he will not make it easy for Verstappen.
