Hamilton surprised with podium: "I didn't expect this"
Lewis Hamilton finished on the podium in the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix. After what seemed like a difficult Friday where the British driver described his car as "bad", Mercedes perhaps see some light at the end of the tunnel as their car had strong race pace. Once again, the German team take home a high amount of points given how far they have been behind Ferrari and Red Bull in 2022.
Second podium in 2022
Montreal is one of Hamilton's most successful circuits, with seven wins and six pole positions. Whilst he hasn't extended this record this weekend, Hamilton is overwhelmed with third-place highlighting just how difficult the last few months have been.
"We've had an awesome crowd here. It's overwhelming to get third place, it's been such a battle this year with the car. As a team, we stayed focused and never gave up. They are a little bit too quick, but we're getting closer. We've got to keep pushing and hopefully, eventually, we'll be in the fight with these guys," Hamilton said in the post-session interviews.
"Our pace was good. We did a lot of work in the simulator to get the setup right. I didn't expect this coming into the weekend," he added.
