Almost everyone had Max Verstappen written down as the winner of qualifying for the British Grand Prix, it was Carlos Sainz who managed to surprise. The Dutchman was the fastest all Saturday, but some mistakes in Q3 and a yellow flag prevented him from achieving pole position.

"Qualifying was tricky. It rained one moment and then it dried up again. You have to be on the track at the right time," Verstappen began to tell Billy Monger on the grid. His fast runs in the last qualifying session were not enough for the 24-year-old driver, so he remains on fifteen poles.

The RB18 was not the problem on Saturday afternoon. "Overall, the car was working pretty well. In Q3, its a bit of a lottery sometimes when you have to put the fastest lap in. I got a bit hindered with the yellow flag but still to be on the front row is very good for us because we have a good race car in the dry and wet," he is optimistic about his chances.

Verstappen not going to take any big risks

When asked how aggressive he wants to be in tomorrow's opening lap, Verstappen says: "It's not only about the first lap. It's about the race. It's also about tyre management but looking forward to the race tomorrow," he concluded.
