Verstappen: "I prefer not to really think about it yet"

Max Verstappen believes he has already had his most emotional moments in Formula One. In conversation with former Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard, the Dutchman is asked if his goals or expectations of winning another World Championship in the premier class of motor sport have changed now that he has his first title in his pocket. His contract extension with the Austrian racing team was also discussed.
"I think it will be less emotional if it were to happen yeah," Verstappen said in conversation with David Coulthard on Channel 4.
"Because it’s the same with the first race win, my first race win was still the most emotional win of all of them, of course apart from the World Championship. All the other ones they’ve never been as emotional as that one because that’s the first time you get to taste something like that which is such a difficult thing to achieve in Formula 1. So I think it will be different."
After ten Grands Prix in 2022, the 24-year-old driver has the best papers to finish at the top of the championship this year. Verstappen does not envisage what that would be like."I prefer not to really think about that yet. We are on a good run but you have to keep it going," he said.
Verstappen signs long contract
Even before the start of the season, Verstappen signed a contract that ties him to Red Bull until the end of 2028. At the time, no kilometres had been covered by F1 teams under the new regulations, so the driver from Limburg seemed to be taking a risk by signing such a long-term commitment without knowing how well Red Bull had interpreted the new rules.
However, it was not a factor at all in Verstappen's decision to stay with Red Bull. "The relationship I have within the team, all the people you need to be able to be yourself as well and be happy at what you’re doing and where you’re doing it at. And all of that clicked and of course our goal was to win the championship and we did that and I believe in the people who are already at Red Bull and are coming into Red Bull and yeah I really believe that we can be succesful for a while you know and that’s why I committed for such a long time."
