Internet reactions after qualifying Austria | Cheering fans and sour Wolff
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen was the favourite to start the race weekend in Austria, but in the final minutes of qualifying, it looked as though Ferrari would take the front row. Yet it was Verstappen who took pole at the last minute, sealing a much-discussed qualifying session. Naturally, the internet also wanted to say something about the session.
It wasn't just the last two minutes of qualifying that set tongues wagging, but also the two Mercedes drivers. Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell slid off the track and ended up in the wall, leaving Toto Wolff with a sour face. The Mercedes team boss is always a hit on the internet, as the qualifying session in Austria showed once again.
The spectators present also provided the necessary discussion. As in Silverstone, the misfortunes of Verstappen were applauded, the same happened when Hamilton made a slide in Austria. The general verdict is: that both sides behave unsportingly and should stop.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Verstappen wins the sprint tomorrow so he gets pole AND starts first for the Grand Prix and we don't create a statistical paradox that unravels the space-time continuum destroys the entire universe and stuff #AustrianGP

A few things to keep in mind as we head to tomorrow: Perez likely to take a grid penalty for his Q2 lap, Mercedes will have big repairs so the gearboxes for Russel & Hamilton could be at risk. #F1 | #AustrianGP

All of the same bad kind.#AustrianGP #F1
Disgraceful imo that some fans cheered the crashes in quali today. Please never celebrate potentially dangerous shunts. Let’s hope respectful rivalry resumes tomorrow. #AustrianGP #F1
