Alfa Romeo goes for the higher goal: 'It's a matter of being consistent'

Alfa Romeo is satisfied with how the first half of the season went. The team is in the mid-table of the Constructors' Championship and, with Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, is showing clear growth. Technical director Jan Monchaux, however, hopes there is more in it.
In the world championship, Bottas can be found in ninth position. The driver is on a points total of 46, putting him just behind Esteban Ocon. Lando Norris is a little further away with a difference of thirty points.
Alfa Romeo is also well behind in the constructors' standings. With a difference of 44 and 48 points to McLaren and Alpine respectively, the Alfa Romeo team will have to work hard in the last nine races to close the gap.

Nevertheless, Monchaux is confident that Alfa Romeo can catch up with both teams. It will not be easy though, as the technical director knows. He hopes that luck will be on the side of Alfa Romeo.
"I would hope we can spoil the party of the orange and... blue guys", Monchaux says in conversation with Formula1.com. "I mean, we're only at halftime. It's a matter of now being consistent, bringing updates. I think from the pure pace of the car, we can go and challenge these guys."
