Jos Verstappen 's main focus in recent years was winning the world title with Max Verstappen in Formula 1, but since this year the 50-year-old Dutchman regularly gets behind the wheel himself again. Verstappen Sr. talks about the differences between the premier class of motorsport and rallying and also states in an interview that he does not expect to drive with Max in this branch of motorsport.

"I really had to get used to getting instructions from someone", Jos starts to tell on the website of Verstappen.nl. "When I raced in Formula cars I did not like it when an engineer talked to me over the board radio during a race. Now they talk to me constantly. I really had to get used to that and accept it. Also to listen to it and understand what I had to do. That was hard to get used to."

He goes on to say that it is especially important to get a lot of mileage out of the person sitting next to you in the car. Rallying requires very good communication and cooperation. Jos feels he is making progress every weekend. "That is improving: the more we drive together, the more I learn and the better I become."

Max Verstappen and rally

The former Formula 1 driver does not think that a career together with his son Max in rallying is possible. The current F1 World Championship number one would (logically) have too little time. "We have tested together for a day in the past, where I got in with him and he got in with me. We both enjoyed that. But I don't think we will see Max in a rally car, he is too busy for that. He does follow me around and calls me regularly to ask how it is going and is interested in that", Jos concludes.
