Mercedes is well behind in the 2022 season. The team is slowly closing in on top teams Ferrari and Red Bull Racing, so David Coulthard expects Mercedes to win another race this season.

Mercedes started the new season lagging behind. However, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are steadily improving their performances in the W13. In Hungary, Russell grabbed a surprising pole position, while Hamilton has now finished on the podium five times in a row.

Can Mercedes win another race in 2022?

"I think there's every likelihood of them [Mercedes] winning a Grand Prix. Let's remind ourselves in previous years, people like Alpine and McLaren have won in seasons that, you know they've not been even close prior to those one-off races. So, I do think it's feasible," Coulthard says in conversation with Sporting News.

Coulthard believes Mercedes must show what the team has to offer in the last nine races. The success of a comeback is just as important as its dominant eight seasons in the sport. The former Formula One driver, therefore, expects an interesting second half of the season. If Mercedes can continue to improve its performance, the team may even be able to challenge Ferrari for second position in the constructors' championship.
