Brown "hoped McLaren could've achieved more" with Ricciardo
CEO Zak Brown admits he hoped the partnership between McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo would've worked out better. On Wednesday, the Woking-based team confirmed that Ricciardo will leave the team at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Ricciardo departs
For various reasons, the partnership between Ricciardo and McLaren never worked out. Lando Norris usually managed to get the better of his teammate and McLaren haven't made that a secret throughout. After rumour and suggestions during the first half of the season, McLaren close the summer break by announcing Ricciardo's departure.
“Daniel has been a great addition to McLaren, and it’s been a pleasure working with him. I’d like to thank him for all of his efforts over the last two seasons both trackside and back at base. It’s no secret that we hoped we could achieve more together but seeing him stand on the top step of the podium as a McLaren driver was a highlight. We wish him well for the future and let’s go enjoy the rest of the season together," Brown said in McLaren's statement.
Ricciardo will keep his place at McLaren until the chequered flag at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Ricciardo's future is yet to be confirmed, and the future teammate of Lando Norris is also waiting to be announced. Though it would seem that the door is open for Oscar Piastri.
