Alexander Albon could not participate in last weekend's Italian Grand Prix due to appendicitis. The Thai was replaced by Nyck de Vries. On the Monday after the race Williams gives an update on the health of Albon. The driver is doing well despite complications after his operation.

On Saturday morning in Monza, it was determined that Albon could not participate in the race because of appendicitis. The Williams driver was treated at the hospital in San Gerarde. On Saturday afternoon he underwent a successful operation, his team announces on the website.

However, Albon suffered unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications after the operation which led to respiratory failure. It is a known but uncommon complication of the operation. The driver was therefore transferred to intensive care for support.

Albon is doing well

"He made excellent progress overnight and was able to be removed from mechanical ventilation yesterday morning. He has now been transferred to a general ward and is expected to return home tomorrow. There were no other complications", Williams says. Albon is fortunately recovering. The Thai is aiming for his Formula One return at the Singapore Grand Prix.
