Max Verstappen is making a big impression in Formula 1 this season. Where the Dutchman still had to battle hard with Lewis Hamilton in 2021, he reigns supreme in the world championship a year later. Verstappen's current form reminds Stefano Domenicali a lot of the years of Michael Schumacher.

The German took no less than seven Formula 1 world titles between 1991 and 2012, holding the record along with Hamilton. According to Domenicali, there are many similarities to be drawn between Verstappen and Schumacher.

"He is similar to him because he concentrates on everything he does on the track," the Formula One boss told Corriere della Sera about Verstappen. "He has become much more mature, he has learnt to control his emotions. He is a cannibal. He doesn't look anyone in the face. And in that, he reminds me a lot of Michael."

This season, Leclerc is also showing the outside world that he can compete for the world title, although Domenicali believes there are enough differences. "He is also an extraordinary driver, with a different empathy than Max. He also has other interests besides Formula 1 and is keen to develop them."

Verstappen's world title close

Verstappen can clinch the world championship as early as the next Grand Prix, which takes place in Singapore in early October. For that, however, a win by the Dutchman is not enough, but he must also look at the result of Sergio Perez and Leclerc.
