Mattia Binotto hopes to lead Ferrari to the world title in the coming years. The team boss is well aware that the Italian racing stable still needs to make some big steps to do so. He sees the Ferrari Driver Academy as an important part of having the necessary talent in house, he told Motorsportweek.com.

"The Ferrari Driver Academy, for us, is a very important pillar of our team," Binotto explained. "We are investing a lot in it and we’ll continue investing a lot on the Driver Academy. The reason for that is that we believe it’s important to develop the best talent and look for the future, to try to find the best talent for the red car."

Schumacher's future remains uncertain

However, this also involves Binotto having to make hard decisions with Ferrari at times. For instance, he says he is still undecided whether Ferrari wants to continue its collaboration with Mick Schumacher. The driver is in his second season with Haas, but is still not convincing.

Haas team boss Guenther Steiner also revealed earlier that he is not yet convinced by Schumacher's performance. Both men, therefore, appear to be in talks in the coming weeks to explore what is best for all parties.

"It’s important for Mick this season to improve. We will in a few races sit down with him, make a balance of the season, and we’ll do that as well together with Haas and decide for his best future."
