It was a tight qualifying session in the end in Singapore with the top four being split by just a tenth and a half. It was Carlos Sainz who was the unlucky fourth of that grouping and explained to the media after Q3 that it's not possible to be happy with that result.

"When you are a tenth and a half from pole and you are P4 you cannot be happy because you know where that tenth and a half is and how tight it was." he continues when talking to Sky Sports, "It meant we didn't manage to get it but I know exactly where that tenth and a half is in the lap." Sainz is obviously disappointed by where he's starting tomorrow and isn't letting the result hinder his ambitions for the weekend as he's clearly going for broke "Podium that is a target and if it is not a podium then it is a win." he explained.

Learning opportunity

It's also a learning opportunity for Sainz Jr as he admits "I will look back carefully, see what I would have done better." and that "It is what it is and we have to take it." which is a good outlook to have when returning to a circuit for the first time in three years, and the first time he's driven Singapore in the Ferrari machinery.  The Spaniard will be looking to keep pushing and get past the two other constructors ahead of him in the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull of Sergio Perez, before we'll see if he's allowed to race teammate Chares Leclerc who starts on pole.
