Ricciardo gets tip-off: 'He's in a very strange situation then'

Daniel Ricciardo is in his final season at McLaren, which means he is diligently looking for a new challenge in Formula 1. With few spots left vacant, he is also reportedly keeping the third-driver option open. Jenson Button would consider this a wrong choice.
The former Formula 1 driver was part of Formula 1 for many years between 2000 and 2017. In those seasons, he also experienced Ricciardo up close, noting the Briton's many qualities even then. Although the Australian's career is currently going down a lot, Button does not think Ricciardo should give up.
Button advises Ricciardo against third driver challenge
According to Button, Ricciardo is still too good to step out of the motorsport class and it is therefore to be hoped that there is a racing stable that still shows confidence in Ricciardo. The simple world champion therefore believes Ricciardo should not accept offers for a third driver.
"Being a third driver for someone of his calibre, it’s a very, very strange situation he’s found himself in," Button told Sky Sports. "I don’t know what he would get out of being a third driver. He’s not a young driver, so he can’t drive the car next year in race weekends (free practice), it has to be a young driver. So he wouldn’t really get anything out of it."
