Carlos Sainz has had a turbulent season with Ferrari. While the Italian formation started the race year excellently, appearing to be a candidate for the world title, the battle with Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing proved too high. Nevertheless, the Spaniard remains proud of his team, he told the BBC.

"Mattia [Binotto] has done an excellent job at not losing the cool head at any point," he informed the medium. "We have had a lot of difficult moments, a lot of criticism, and he has remained stuck to his principles. No-one has been fired. We stayed united in the most difficult moments and it shows the progress of our culture."

Tough season for Ferrari

Ferrari's season has by no means been flawless. The Italians were caught in strategic errors on several occasions this season, while the car was also far from reliable. As a result, the team could not avoid missing out on important points.

Sainz acknowledges that his team made some mistakes in 2022, but points out in the interview that there are more formations that did not always act correctly themselves. The difference, however, according to the driver, is that at Ferrari there is more pressure and attention, so they are more likely to be noticed and discussed.

"It is always exposed to criticism and high attention on all our mistakes. When we win, it's incredible - it is the best win in the world to win for Ferrari. To go through such a difficult season as we did with so few problems in the team is something to be valued."
