Windsor shocked by Verstappen's behaviour: 'Incredibly childish'

Peter Windsor is shocked by Max Verstappen's behaviour at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Dutchman did not want to relinquish his sixth position to teammate Sergio Perez, who is still fighting for P2 in the drivers' championship. According to the Formula One expert, Verstappen's behaviour is not appropriate for a world champion.
While Lewis Hamilton, who crossed the finish line behind his teammate, was hugely happy for George Russell and his first F1 victory, Verstappen refused to help his teammate win P2 in the championship. It provides a surprising contrast between the two teammates.
"Lewis was gracious in defeat whereas Max for the first time this year was like a spoiled child saying, no I’m not going to give up sixth place to my teammate who’s helped me a lot. It’s just bizarre," Windsor began in his new YouTube analysis.
After the race, it seemed like Verstappen was taking revenge from the Monaco Grand Prix, where Perez allegedly crashed on purpose. "It suggests that there’s some sort of incident that this was payback for, in which case that is unbelievably juvenile and not appropriate for somebody of his stature. I’ve spent all year thinking Max was really mature and he’s taking on the mantle of a world champion with responsibility, but what we saw today was Formula Ford stuff. It was petulant Formula Ford stuff. To me it was absolutely shocking to see," the F1 expert continued.
Verstappen influenced by Marko and his father?
Verstappen has promised that he will have his teammate though in Abu Dhabi next weekend. Perez leaves for the very last race of the season with the same number of points as P2 rival Charles Leclerc, so the Mexican will need all the help he can get. Still, Windsor wonders if Verstappen has not been negatively influenced by those around him.
"I wonder at the root of it all whether there’s some sort of Helmut Marko, Jos Verstappen influence there. We know how fiery they are and how into Max they are. Max getting every point, every position, and we saw that in 2021 in the way they were winding him up with every battle with Lewis. I wonder whether it’s that, but even if it is, I’m disappointed that Max has gone along with it."
