Max Verstappen managed pole position in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. The Dutchman was fastest during Q3 for the third time already this season and will start from P1 tomorrow. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is happy with pole position.

Marko explained to Sky Sports Germany that Verstappen complained a lot about understeer during qualifying, but it was not a major obstacle. "Incredible teamwork between the engineers, the tyre specialists and Max! At the beginning of qualifying, there was still a bit too much understeer, but it wasn't a big problem. Slowly but surely we pushed the limit, and Max drove another great lap."

Marko saw the challenge for Red Bull and Verstappen

There was a challenge for Red Bull in terms of managing the tyres, says Red Bull's advisor. "The problem was that the tyres overheated in the third sector. In the penultimate corner, we lost all the lead we had built up in the rest of the lap. We knew we had to work on that. That it worked out so well: compliments to the whole team. It was another flawless lap by Max!", Marko concluded.

Verstappen, starting from P1 tomorrow, was not so sure about his chances of winning the Grand Prix tomorrow after qualifying. He hinted that pole position in Melbourne felt more like a bonus and that he was not as confident as in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
