This is how George Russell reacted to DNF and Hamilton's win at Silverstone

It was not meant to be at Silverstone for George Russell. Starting from pole position, the British driver had to retire his car it seemed like out of nowhere, as he had problems with his water system issue, his team reported during the race. Here is how Russell reacted to his home GP.

Russell had a struggling period during the race. Just before heavy rain arrived, the Briton lost three positions within a couple of laps to Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton. "I knew it was going to be a long race and sort of wanted to be patient. We were still in the fight, but ten laps before the failure, I knew I had problems. I was losing power and then, water failure, no water to the engine," the two-time Grand Prix winner explained to GPblog among others. "As soon as I went back out [after the pit stop] I was losing power so I knew from that point on the race was gone."

Russell was disappointed with the result himself, as he could not finish his home race following a pole position on Saturday. "Within myself and the car, I'm feeling good, but obviously this is a real blow. I've retired from many races, let alone your home Grand Prix when you have the car to win but we'll have another go."

However, Russell was also happy for his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who won his first GP since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. "I mean it's incredible, Lewis is on course to win, if we had the car in normal driving circumstances it would be 1-2, we're clearly back and I think we'll be fighting for race wins more often now."
