Norris refuses to think of title: 'Looks glorious, but we'll have a battle'
Lando Norris has reflected on his strong FP2 performance as the Brit topped the timesheets in his McLaren. The Papaya team looks strong before their battle with Ferrari for the constructors title on Sunday. Behind Norris was his teammate Oscar Piastri, making it a McLaren one-two. Despite the success, Norris refuses to get ahead of himself as the job is yet to be completed for the Woking-based team.
Norris: "We're still going to have a tough fight tomorrow"
"It was a good day, yeah. The car's been feeling good the whole day, so we continued our pace out of Qatar. I feel strong, I definitely think we have some things to improve on in both low and high fuel. It certainly looks probably better than it is. I don't think the others turned up their engines yet, so it might look glorious for now, but I think we're still going gonna have a tough fight tomorrow," Norris revealed.
McLaren are 21 points in front of Ferrari heading into the race at the Yas Marina Circuit. Norris' team are searching for their first constructors title since 1998 and has one hand on their first team trophy in over two decades. Norris was notably relaxed in conversation with Sky Sports. The Brit is keeping his feet on the ground and notes that there are still things that he thinks his team can change to optimise performance.
What can McLaren improve heading into the final qualifying session of the season? "I mean, it's nothing huge, it's small things, it's trying to find the balance of going quicker but saving the tyres, especially in the longer run stuff. It's where can you push more and how can you save the tyres more with driving with the toys, you know, the things I can change on my steering wheel and the underlying balance of the car, so just trying to find the right compromise." The Brit concluded.
