Peter Windsor on title fight with Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari

Windsor believes 'Ferrari aren't as far ahead of Red Bull and Mercedes yet'

Peter Windsor has had his say on how the Formula 1 grid is shaking up before the Australian Grand Prix, and after the three days of winter testing in Bahrain, he does not think that there is a clear gap between Ferrari and their other two rivals, Red Bull and Mercedes.

Red Bull Racing surged ahead in 2024 after winning several of the opening races to start the season. However, as the season progressed, McLaren and Ferrari closed the gap and challenged the Austrian team greatly, with McLaren winning the constructors' championship at the end of the season. The question is now whether these teams will still have a better car than Red Bull at the start of 2025?

After three days of testing in the desert of Sakhir, McLaren seemed to be leader of the 2025 pack, with Ferrari a little bit ahead of Red Bull and Mercedes. However, Windsor, speaking on a live stream on his YouTube channel, thinks it is far closer than it seems.

Windsor shares findings from test in Bahrain on Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes

"A lot of people saying how well McLaren are going to go. They didn't actually go that well in the test, did they? But that doesn't mean anything, it just shows that the testing is about what the team is doing with the fuel loads, the bits they are running on the car and how they are running the test. McLaren are obviously going to be quick," Windsor explained with his analysis.

"I would not have said, based on what we saw, that Ferrari are more likely to be ahead of Red Bull than Mercedes with what people are saying at the moment. They looked pretty good, but I thought Red Bull looked pretty good too, and I thought Mercedes looked pretty good too, so it is getting pretty very between those three. I am not saying, at the moment, that Ferrari have the jump on Red Bull and Mercedes," Windsor concluded.
