Christian Horner has said that the team fully backs Pierre Gasly despite his slightly slow start in the Red Bull seat. The Frenchman had another disappointing result last weekend in Baku after a number of penalties saw him start in the pitlane and then an issue with his car forced him to retire from the race. Despite this Horner is still confident Gasly is the right man.

"His pace was very encouraging," Horner is quoted by France's Auto Hebdo. "We could see from the beginning of practice that he was much more comfortable and confident with the car. He knows he has delivered a much stronger weekend," he said.

"He is coming out of this delicate period and gets a lot of support from us. He knows that we believe in him," Horner added. "It just takes a little while.

"We also can't forget that he has this very difficult barometer next door who is one of the best on the grid," he said, in reference to Max Verstappen.

Gasly topped the timesheet in Q1 and if he hadn't had the penalties and the issue with his car then he could have had a very successful weekend. He will hope that he can continue to improve at the team and establish himself as a top driver.
