Could we see Alonso contest the Dakar Rally?
Fernando Alonso has been pursuing the Triple Crown, but Carlos Sainz Sr believes Alonso is interested in racing the Dakar Rally and they could even form a team together as the Spaniard plots his next move in motorsport.
Alonso recently won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the second time both with Toyota Gazoo Racing alongside Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima. The former McLaren and Ferrari driver has been pursuing the Triple Crown of motorsport and has already won the Monaco Grand Prix, leaving just the Indianapolis 500, where he failed to qualify for this year's edition.
Alonso left Formula 1 at the end of last season and was replaced by Carlos Sainz Sr's son, McLaren driver Carlos Sainz. Despite retiring from F1 Alonso has been linked with several potential seats for the 2020 season, including Mercedes and Ferrari but Sainz Sr believes we could see him in the Dakar Rally sometime soon and raised the possibility of them teaming up.
“It would be very nice for us to form a team, and I know that Fernando is very keen to go to Dakar,” Sainz told Marca.
