With the disappearance of multiple fixed circuits on the Formula 1 calendar, possibly other circuits may seize their chance. It seemed that Hockenheim was one of those tracks, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

On the 5th July, Formula 1 will finally start in 2020 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. There will then be racing throughout Europe, with a Grand Prix on the Monza circuit as the eighth and final race at the moment.

What will happen next is not yet clear. A number of regular circuits have signed out, but it is possible that other circuits will remain available for one or more races. For example, the BBC reported on Friday that the Hockenheimring is looking forward to organize two Grands Prix in September.

No Grand Prix in Germany

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that this is not the case today. The Italian newspaper has spoken with the two directors of the circuit, who say that a possible race is too risky.

"It is not possible for us to leave our circuit on standby until a date is known for the Grand Prix", Jorn Teske and Jochen Nerpel told the newspaper. The granting of the European season for Formula 1 is currently only speculation. In the past the Hockenheimring has already suffered a lot of financial problems, which makes organizing a Grand Prix that can be cancelled at any moment too risky.
