Mattia Binotto is pleasantly surprised with Charles Leclerc's second place at the Red Bull Ring. However, the Italian knows full well that it was a very lucky Sunday afternoon and that Ferrari will have to work hard to get on the podium again next weekend.

"I wasn't expecting it at all," said Binotto at Sky Sports. However, Ferrari's team boss doesn't like the speed the SF1000 showed on Sunday afternoon. "Our performance is disappointing, we knew we weren't competitive. Yesterday qualifying was really, really bad. I'm happy with how the team has worked and that it is now rewarded with a podium finish."

Ferrari hopes for updates

The Italian race stable hopes to be able to ride with a better package soon. "Maybe we'll bring some updates. We're pushing hard to bring some parts to have improvements," said Binotto, referring to Hungary. "But that's not going to bring more speed on the straights. It's not that fast. At least the engine isn't as good as it used to be."

Ferrari were almost a second slower than in 2019 and that hurts. "We're slow on the straight. In terms of grip it's not so bad, but the performance on the straights is very disappointing."
