'Vettel on his way to Racing Point, but who has to leave is still unclear'
- GPblog.com
Sebastian Vettel is on his way to Racing Point. That should be clear by now. After a meeting with Lawrence Stroll and a ride in the car with Otmar Szafnauer, we can get ready for a new transfer.
Vettel can lie badly
''I have many options, but perhaps not so many more in Formula 1'', says Vettel to Motorsport-total.com about his future. Then the German could also confirm that he had gotten into the car with Szafnauer (despite the directive that you have to stay inside your own bubble).
Of course, there is more to it than that. The rumours that Vettel will leave for Racing Point (next year Aston Martin) have been around the paddock for some time now and the meetings with Stroll and Szafnauer are just proof of that. However, the question now is how this situation will evolve?
Perez clearly the best
During the British Grand Prix, it became clear that Lance Stroll is a lot less capable as leader of a team than Sergio Perez. Vettel will be appointed for that role, but few engineers and mechanics will have the confidence that Stroll's feedback is correct.
With a multi-year contract in his pocket, Perez seemed safe, but the rumours that he would have gone to Mexico to get more sponsorship money for his seat are becoming increasingly clear. However, the question is, what should happen to Lance? Dad has bought the team together with some investors, but will soon see his son disappear.
Where can Stroll go?
It would be the best decision for the team because the past year and a half we have seen that Perez is the better driver. Together with Vettel that seems like a duo to really compete for the podium in 2021. Stroll will be able to take a spot as a test driver or leave for Williams, Alfa Romeo or Haas with extra money in his pocket for a year.
In any case, it would be a shame if Perez has to leave Racing Point despite his contract. Two years ago, the Mexican saved all the staff from dismissal and paved the way for the current management. In addition, he has been a permanent force for the team for years and they won't just want to say goodbye to him in order to keep the spoiled son.
