Just like last weekend, Formula 1 crashed on the Silverstone circuit and the Honda-powered cars were in good shape in the free practice sessions on the first day. The Japanese engine supplier is satisfied and says it was a good day for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri.

Twice at Silverstone

Tanabe says he sees the advantage of driving twice on the same track. "Having raced at this track just a few days ago means that we were able to work on further optimising our PU before running today", says Tanabe at Hondaracingf1.com.

"As expected, we have seen very high temperatures, which we experience several times during a normal season, but maybe not at Silverstone! It was a useful day therefore, as we expect these conditions to continue over the next couple of days", Tanabe continues.

New components

Tanabe says that a lot of work was done on the Friday on the power source of both Daniil Kvyat and the Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon. By the way, the latter two used their second Honda engine of 2020. According to Tanabe, this has been a strategic choice to add more components to the pool.

"We have the same strategy with Scuderia AlphaTauri, however, we had already introduced a second PU for Pierre in Hungary, and as already mentioned, because we wanted to see if there were any after-effects on the PU side following the heavy impact in Danii’s crash last Sunday, we have not made any changes for those two cars at this round", concludes Tanabe.
