Red Bull Racing talent Juri Vips will make his Formula 2 debut during the races at Spa-Francorchamps. He will replace the injured Sean Gelael who broke a vertebra during the main race in Spain.

Invasion for VIPs

Juri Vips is expected to fill in for Gelael during the weekend of August 30 and 31, Autohebdo reveals. Vips will join the team of DAMS next to former Red Bull-junior Dan Ticktum.

Helmut Marko hijacked the youngster from Formula 3 last season in order to get more points for his super license in Japan. Vips was supposed to be driving in the Superleague Formula this season, but he wasn't given access to enter the country due to the coronavirus restrictions. Now that Vips gets the chance in Formula 2, he finally gets the chance to get points for his super license this season.

More than Belgium

It is expected that Vips will not only board during the races in Belgium, as Gelael's injury may keep him on the side for up to six weeks. So there is a big chance that Vips will also be in action at Monza and Mugello.

Update 19:07

Meanwhile, DAMS itself confirms via Twitter that Vips will in any case be used during the races at Spa, Monza and Mugello. Gelael's injury is too serious and is not expected back in the car before that time.
