Haug hopes for repeat McLaren success after renewed Mercedes cooperation
- GPblog.com
Mercedes and McLaren will start working together again in 2021. The latter will drive with a power source of the first mentioned. Former Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug is looking forward to the cooperation. The German remembers that Ron Dennis received too little praise for his excellent work at the time.
Former McLaren success thanks to Ron Dennis
The relationship between the two top Formula 1 brands lasted from 1995 to 2014 and will be resumed in 2021. Norbert Haug and Ron Dennis know each other well from that time. In his time Dennis was good for no less than seven constructors' championships and ten drivers' titles.
As Haug looks ahead to the collaboration of 2021 at F1-insider.com he thinks: "I am very satisfied with the renewed collaboration. I would like to see Ron Dennis, who has retired since the brands split up, get more recognition for what he has meant to F1 and to McLaren in particular".
Hope for a repeat of McLaren's success
Haug continues: "We have worked together for a great and predominantly fifteen years. The McLaren-Mercedes silver arrows with Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard and later Lewis Hamilton were the embodiment of pure quality in Formula 1".
The German hopes to see the same again in the years to come. According to Haug, McLaren already has the necessary staff on board: "With Andreas Seidl at the helm, there is a chance they will go up a bit again. McLaren also has a driver who knows what the top step of the podium looks like and knows how to get there".
Haug is referring to Daniel Ricciardo, who will join the team in 2021.
