Robert Doornbos looks back on an eventful F1 weekend with a surprising podium. For the first time in years, the 'usual suspects' were not involved. Lewis Hamilton fell back after a heavy penalty, Max Verstappen dropped out and Valtteri Bottas had a very bad start. Doornbos is critical.

Traditional top three not to be found

The former Dutch F1 driver and Ziggo Sport analyst looks back on the Italian race weekend at Monza. In his video column he says: "On the one hand it was nice to see, because how often do we still see Lewis Hamilton racing wheel to wheel?

As Lewis Hamilton was severely punished for an illegal pit stop, the Briton had to try to come back from P20 at the restart half way through the race. In the end he came to P7. Doornbos sees that the usual suspects Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas were not involved either. Especially on the afternoon of Bottas, Doornbos is critical.

Bottas messed up at the start

"Bottas messed up at the start", continues Doornbos. "Guys, what a shitty start that was. When on a circuit like Monza you miss the run to the first corner so much... In the second chicane we see a beautiful action on him from Norris, but they touch each other. From that moment on Bottas has all these weird thoughts in his head".

"He thought there was something wrong with his car; he went off on his warm-up lap. There was nothing wrong with his car, he just had a very bad start to the Italian Grand Prix".
