Alexander Albon finally got his first podium in Formula 1, but the gap to Max Verstappen is still very big on Saturday and Sunday. However, the Dutchman himself indicates that this is not a problem.

Verstappen does not need a teammate

Whether you look at the champion years of Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel or Mika Hakkinen, there is always one thing that stands out: the second driver. Rarely is it a driver who is just as good and causes problems, but in fact always a driver who can play his role as second violin and is close by. For Verstappen this hasn't been the case for the last year and a half, but he says he doesn't need that himself.

''No, I don't need that anymore. In my first year that might still be the case, but in the meantime I know very well what I have to do myself. I don't really care who my teammate is. I mainly try to get the most out of it myself'', says Verstappen according to Motorsport.com.

Verstappen still happy at Red Bull

Verstappen is very open within the team, but he does not want to talk about helping his teammate. ''I'm very open, so they can look at everything in terms of data'', says the driver of Red Bull Racing.

Verstappen still has a long contract with Red Bull Racing, but with the current problems it could just be that Verstappen wants to look a little further. The Dutchman is not working on that at the moment. He wants to stay active in F1 and be successful with his current team.

''I don't really have goals for 2025, for example, but at least I still want to be active in F1. Whether Ferrari is a dream team? Well, I especially hope that I can drive in Formula 1 at Red Bull for a very long time to come'', the Dutchman concludes.
