More and more teams are finalising their lineups for 2021. Red Bull Racing is the only one of the top teams where this is not yet fully known. Everything will depend on how Helmut Marko in particular judges Alexander Albon's performance.

"If Albon can continue to develop and improve, then he is a candidate for our car for 2021," said Marko in conversation with Ralf Schumacher on Sky Sport Germany. "In fast corners Albon is at the level of Max. He has only one, two corners where he loses disproportionate time".

Gasly doesn't seem to be a first choice as a replacement for Albon

A new contract therefore certainly does not seem impossible for Albon, but alternatives are being seriously considered by the Austrian. A logical choice would be Pierre Gasly, who is now doing well at Alpha Tauri, but Marko seems for the first time to be looking seriously outside the Red Bull junior program.

"If Albon doesn't live up to our expectations, we have to look outside our team. We are strong enough to jump over our shadows and then the two well-known candidates Perez and Hülkenberg come into the game."
