'Red Bull Racing keeps door ajar for Perez, but he doesn't have that time'
- GPblog.com
Sergio Perez' future in Formula 1 is uncertain. Since the announced farewell at Racing Point, the Mexican is in a hurry to find a seat with another team, but that is not so easy.
Perez has only one option
Perez had a contract with Racing Point, but due to a clause in that contract the deal was broken and Sebastian Vettel was signed instead. Haas could be an option, but there is plenty of young competition.
However, according to Lawrence Barretto, Formula1.com journalist, the talks with Williams are serious. George Russell has a contract with Williams, but the talks between Dorilton and Perez have taken place. Perez would like to stay in Formula 1 and according to Barretto this seems to be his only choice.
Russell becomes the victim
The other option is Red Bull, with whom Perez has already sat down. According to Barretto, Perez and Max Verstappen would provide 'a formidable line-up,' but there is a problem for Perez. Where Red Bull does keep the door open, there is no hurry to make the decision.
But Perez doesn't have that time, because if he waits for Red Bull Racing, the door at Williams might already be closed. The Mexican has indicated that he will provide clarity in the short term, so the move to Williams could be the most logical one. This would be a disappointment for Russell, who, like Esteban Ocon a year ago, may be pushed aside as a Mercedes junior.
