The international media has responded with praise to Lewis Hamilton's for his victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver passed Michael Schumacher in terms of the number of victories in Formula 1 and that has, of course, has not gone unnoticed. Hamilton is labelled a 'legend'.

Auto, Motor und Sport (Germany)

"Hamilton seized his 92nd Grand Prix victory in Portugal, setting a new Formula 1 record. Problems in the opening phase briefly jeopardized the world champion's success. Lewis continues to insist that Formula 1's record books have to be rewritten. Just two weeks after matching Michael Schumacher's old victory record at the Nürburgring, the Mercedes driver took the lead on his own on Sunday."

Sky Sports (Great Britain)

"Two weeks after equalling the huge haul of 91 wins set by Michael Schumacher in 2006, Hamilton now holds the prestigious record outright with a victory that moves him potentially just two more races away from drawing level with the German great as a seven-time world champion."

La Gazzetta Dello Sport (Italy)

"He gave his rivals some hope on the wet asphalt at first, but then he destroyed them. The countdown is over. A brutal performance, triumph after triumph. The victory in Portugal will make Lewis Hamilton a legend. It's just a matter of time, races and victories before the six-time world champion will also break the record of seven titles held by the great Schumi."

L'Equipe (France)

“Beating Michael Schumacher's record of 91 wins clearly deserves enormous appreciation. With his teammate and Carlos Sainz close by in the first corner, Lewis Hamilton kept the nerve to control his Mercedes in the rain. The Brit barely using his talent to win, just to get the best out of his W11 to set the best times, lap after lap."

Marca (Spain)

The Madrid newspaper gives Hamilton with a score of 10 the maximum score for his performance on the Portimao circuit. "It's the day he defeats Schumacher and becomes a legend thanks to victory."
