Wolff couldn't believe it: "It's shocking"
Toto Wolff couldn't believe what he saw when Romain Grosjean's Haas F1 car broke in half on Sunday afternoon. The Mercedes team boss is happy that the Frenchman is okay and states that the same incident years ago may have had a completely different outcome.
"It's shocking," Wolff is quoted by Austrian website Krone.at after the Bahrain Grand Prix. "They are photos we haven't seen since the 1990s."
Formula 1 has been working on safety
The 48-year-old Austrian believes that the top class of motorsport has made great strides in recent years when it comes to improving safety. According to Wolff, this was clearly reflected on the Bahrain International Circuit when Grosjean's car ended up in the crash barrier.
"I don't even want to imagine how this accident would have ended a few years ago. But even at a time when safety is high, it is still a very dangerous sport," Wolff is still aware of the risks involved.
