Doornbos believes Red Bull have to snap up Sergio Perez for next season
- GPblog.com
It was a weekend with big winners and big losers at the Sakhir Grand Prix. Sergio Perez of course belongs to that first group and Alexander Albon could be counted in that second group. Robert Doornbos is not impressed by Albon's sixth place in Crashen in de Keuken and his excuses make it worse.
"It starts already in the third free practice with Albon not using the red tyre, so he didn't do a qualifying sim. Then he comes into qualifying and says 'I couldn't go fast, because I didn't know what that red tyre could do'. In the race he has too much downforce and he can't overtake. There's something like that every time, what must the engineers be thinking?"
Red Bull Racing needs to think about credibility
Perez drove a very strong race again and according to Doornbos it would be too crazy if the Mexican doesn't get a drive next season.
"It has to be done. That's what I think, being Red Bull. To the competition it just isn't professional if you keep Albon there. Then you can't attack Mercedes," said Doornbos, who thought only last week that Albon would keep its place.
