Designer Simone Resta is still working at Ferrari, but will transfer to Haas at the end of this season. The American team that uses a Ferrari power source has been driving at the back of the grid for two seasons, so there is some work to be done to be more successful. A renowned designer like Resta is not a bad asset then. However, there is a specific reason behind his departure.

Part of reorganization

As of 2021 the Formula 1 teams will have to deal with a budget cap, which is quite a challenge for the large teams. Mattia Binotto has admitted that this is the reason for the departure of Resta, who returned to Maranello last year after spending some time with Alfa Romeo Racing.

Binotto said in a written statement: "It is clear that we must look forward, because the regulations are changing. The budget constraints means the team must become more efficient. We need to carry out internal restructuring, and this is one of our decisions."

The budget cap clearly plays a role, but it also coincides with the arrival of Mick Schumacher at Haas, who was even put forward there by Ferrari. Whether Resta will play the same role at Haas as he does at Ferrari is not known.
